Sunday's letters to the editor

Soldier gets it

In response to Sue Granges' Aug. 28 letter regarding Joe McNeilly's choice to join the armed services and the consequences that resulted from that decision: She's right.

McNeilly should have known that by enlisting to protect and serve our country not only would he be sent overseas and possibly wounded or killed, he would also lose custody of his son.

I am sure McNeilly would have made a different decision if that last part were in the contract he signed.

"Let's see this for what it is." President Bush and Co., "chose to do something that he wanted to do, that had consequences he didn't think of, and now he wants our sympathy."

"Too bad his child (the American people, individually as well as wholly) will be put in the middle of his poor choice."

How American is that?
